Community Day 2013

Bastyr Community Day 2013

April 17th 12-4:30 PM

Unity in the Community Logo2

BU_Stacked_Logo_RGB

Raffle for iPad mini and Amazon Kindle Fires!

(proceeds will go to the Alternative Health Access Campaign)

Definition of Community Day:
An event sponsored by Student Council as an annual gift to staff, faculty, and students alike, in celebration of everything that is Bastyr.

Goal of Community Day: “To be a community for a single day.” This is far more difficult than one may think! Often times, we are so accustomed to our typical days that we may find it far too difficult to attempt to do anything even slightly different, even for a day. For example, for a typical day, most students just go home and study (like we don’t do enough of that) and most staff and faculty spend much of their day in the office. In both scenarios, not much interaction, communication, community, or, let’s face it, life is present. If we can get outside our bubbles and be reminded that there are people (real, feeling people) just beyond our walls, we might just have a chance to be a university wide community…if even for a day.

Facts of Community Day:
  • All classes between 12-5pm are cancelled. Sorry, classes after 5 are still a “go”. =(
  • At 12:30, clinic closes. Afternoon and evening clinic shifts are cancelled. The shuttle can take you from the clinic to campus after clinic closure.
  • Lunch is free! Dining Commons doors stay closed till 12:30. Note: I know it’s tempting, but please don’t just line up outside of the cafeteria at 12pm. Please make an effort to at least pretend that you’re part of the community. Pretty pleeeeeease!

FAQ:

Q: What exactly is the expectation and commitment for Community Day
A: Everyone is forced to pretend like they like each other for one day…jk, hopefully you actually do like each other. On the serious note, there really isn’t an expectation, just an opportunity to enjoy each other’s company.
Q: Do all students have to show up at a certain time?
A: It isn’t mandatory, but students, staff, and faculty are asked to be at the chapel at 12pm for the Opening Ceremony. Again, this isn’t mandatory, but it is highly encouraged.
Q: How long are students expected to stay at Community Day
A: Again, it isn’t mandatory, but students, staff, and faculty are asked to stay till the end of Closing Ceremony which ends at 4:30. Again, this isn’t mandatory, but something highly encouraged.
Q: What is this raffle thing all about?
A: This raffle is used to raise money for a different charity organization each year. This year The proceeds will go to the Alternative Health Access Campaign. The prizes for the raffle vary from Bookstore Gift Certificates, an iPad mini and three Kindle Fires.

Student Transportation Survey

The Student council is considering purchasing another shuttle van in order to provide more frequent trips between the campus and the clinic. This shuttle is intended to serve as a transportation alternative to students who need to travel between campus and the clinic regularly. It is our aim to reduce the number of cars traveling back and forth, reduce the demand on parking in the Wallingford/Fremont neighborhood, and to provide a reliable hassle free way for our students to commute essentially door to door.
Please complete this short 5 minute survey, so that we may determine if this is a good use of student council funds. Please respond for yourself; do not respond to the perceived needs of others. You response will remain anonymous.
Here is some current shuttle information in order to help you complete the survey:
Current cost of taking the shuttle:
$1 per trip, OR one pass per trip OR you may want a $30 unlimited service decal for the quarter.

The current shuttle campus-clinic schedule for winter 2013 is:

Schedule from Campus to Clinic:
Campus 7:25 AM to Clinic 8:20 AM
Campus 12:00 PM to Clinic 12:45 PM
Campus 4:00 PM to Clinic 4:45 PM
Campus 8:30 PM to Clinic 9:00 PM

Schedule from Clinic to Campus:
Clinic 8:30 AM to Campus 9:15 AM
Clinic 1:10 PM to Campus 1:50 PM
Clinic 5:10 PM to Campus 6:00 PM
Clinic 9:10 PM to Campus 9:45 PM

Student Council and the University, want to be able to spend funds wisely and appropriately, this survey allows students to provide that feedback for needs at the clinic as all options are explored.
